Sasini publishes inaugural sustainability report

Sasini, a leading agricultural company in Kenya, released its first-ever sustainability report on April 6, 2023. The report, published on their website, covers the Group company’s most significant impacts on the economy, environment, and society. MK-Africa is proud to have supported the company in writing this inaugural report, demonstrating Sasini’s remarkable commitment to sustainability, transparency, and accountability. We are delighted to have guided Sasini in preparing their sustainability report following the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Sector Standards for Agriculture. The Agriculture Sector Standards are the latest standards to be launched by GRI, effectively making Sasini one of the first companies to apply them in the region.

The report compilation included training Sasini’s sustainability team on applying the GRI Standards and an extensive stakeholder engagement process, including field visits to the company’s scenic tea and coffee estates. The process led to identifying six key material topics: Environment and Climate Change, Employee Development and Welfare, Product Safety, Quality, and Responsibility, Developing Communities, Business Ethics and Compliance and finally, Sustainable Supply Chains. We covered these topics extensively in the report, including an outline of Sasini’s strategy to advance towards a sustainable future for the company and its stakeholders.

MK-Africa is very proud of this exemplary effort by Sasini and will feature more information on the specific areas covered in the report in future articles.   Sasini is setting an excellent example for other companies to follow in their pursuit of sustainability.
